This Morning has reportedly lost 100,000 viewers in the course of a week as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield continue to battle rumours of a rift.
Reports recently emerged claiming the Dancing On Ice presenters were ‘barely speaking’ behind-the-scenes and that their relationship had ‘cooled’.
While they have continued to put on a united front hosting the ITV daytime show, and Phil, 61, has stressed the pair are ‘still the best of friends’, speculation has been rife the programme could see a major shake-up.
And amid all the rumours of a ‘fallout’, it has been reported that This Morning has been shedding thousands of viewers, with Monday’s episode dropping by 20% to 724,000 compared to the same day last week.
As the week has gone on, with This Morning seeing Holly leave early to go to Buckingham Palace, an awkward hug between the pair and a, er, robot, it’s been claimed even more viewers have been switching off.
According to the Daily Mail, while Tuesday’s episode picked up an average of 663,000, Wednesday’s instalment dropped by more than 100,000 from 647,000 to 551,000 compared to last week.
The publication also reports that the peak viewership in the space of a week plummeted from 905,000 to 683,000.
It comes after claims that Phil is rejecting calls from ITV bosses to step down from This Morning.
A source told the Daily Mail: ‘Phil doesn’t see why he should go. It’s his job, he has steered the show for more than 20 years.’
It has also been claimed that Phil has become ‘increasingly withdrawn’ following the speculation.
A source told the Mirror: ‘[He is] almost a shell of himself. He seems down and spends a lot of time in his dressing room. We’re worried about him.’
Holly and Phil have been hosting This Morning together for 14 years.
They first fronted the popular show together in 2009 and have gone on to become one of British TV’s most loved duos.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
