Rick Owens Debuts New Collab With Luxury Skincare Label Aesop

Following the debut of his monochromatic capsule collection with Champion last month, Rick Owens has added an unlikely suspect to his ever-expanding list of elevated collaborators: luxury Australian skincare label Aesop.

The Paris-based fashion designer on Thursday announced the crossover on Instagram with an image of a co-branded product that appears to resemble a cement candle. Alongside the first-look photo, Owens captioned the post with typical, all-caps notes on the two brands’ synergy.

“I LIKE TO THINK THAT WE BOTH SHARE A DESIRE TO BE AN OPTION FOR THOSE PURSUING A GENTLE, CAREFULLY CONSIDERED LIFE. MY DESIGNS MIGHT BE CONSIDERED BOLD BUT THE FOUNDATION IS ONE OF BENEVOLENCE,” Owens wrote.

Owens continues to explain that while his runway presentations consistently showcase his brand’s “provocative” and “bombastic” attitude, his upcoming Aesop collaboration fuses a quiet consideration into his usual artistic approach.

“I AM ASKING PEOPLE TO CONSIDER AESTHETIC OPTIONS THAT MIGHT NOT BE STANDARD AND OPEN THEIR HEARTS TO DIFFERENT KINDS OF BEAUTY,” he added.

“THE FASHION WORLD CAN BE A VERY RIGID AND RESTRICTIVE PLACE AND IF I CAN ENCOURAGE PUSHING ON THOSE RESTRICTIONS, MAYBE I CAN ENCOURAGE THEM TO BE MORE OPEN TO OTHER IDEAS REGARDING TOLERANCE AND KINDNESS IN THINKING,” he wrote. “I BELIEVE AESOP ADVOCATES THIS ATTITUDE AS WELL.”

At the time of writing, little is known about what the collaboration will breed, though it is likely that we’ll see the pictured candle, a “jersey wrap,” which Owens mentions in the post, and an assortment of co-branded items that fuse Owens’ design codes with Aesop’s suite of luxury ingredients.
