A newly unreleased Cayenne based on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupé recently set the lap record for the fastest SUV on the 20.8 km Nordschleife circuit of the infamous Nürburgring racetrack.
The lap time recorded by the performance Cayenne was 7 minutes 38.925 seconds, beating the previous record-holder, the Audi RS Q8 by 3.328 seconds and outpacing the Cayenne Turbo S by 21 seconds. Aside from the racing seat and roll cage, the luxury SUV was completely stock. The tires used were 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsas specially designed for the car and will come standard.
The new Cayenne is characterized by a powerful 4 liter V8 bi-turbo engine with more than 600 horsepower and is able to reach 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, rivaling the Porsche 992 GT3. Designed for the track and optimized for longitudinal and lateral dynamics, test driver Lars Kern had this to say: “The car is so incredibly agile, it has so much front axle. Where it gets very technical, with a lot of fast turns, the car just sits. You gain a lot of confidence because you know I can do that with this car.”
Porsche will make its world premiere of this record-breaking performance model later this year.
