Marking 40 years since founder Ulrich Dausien established the Jack Wolfskin brand, the outdoors-focused label is giving a look inside its extensive archive. The online exhibition will tell stories from the German brand’s four decades, particularly shining a light on the innovations and products that have defined it since it first emerged in 1981. The archive prominently displays the brand’s signature paw print logo, which launched back in 1983.
The online archive also features interviews with founder Dausien, and other figures from the brand’s history including Arved Fuchs — a renowned German explorer — and Nick Gardener, an 80-year-old man who climbed all 282 peaks in Scotland over the course of 1200 days in tribute to his wife who had fallen ill with Alzheimer’s. Jack Wolfskin also hopes that customers and fans of the brand will present stories of their own adventures over the last 40 years.
As well as showcasing its archive of products, campaigns and stories, Jack Wolfskin has also launched a special collection to celebrate its anniversary. The capsule is heavily inspired by the archive, and is includes a number of retro styles ranging from the Thunder & Lightning Jacket, which originally launched in 1994, to the new Crosstrail backpack series, which incorporates the brand’s Air Control System (from 1991).
Rounding out the anniversary collection, Jack Wolfskin has partnered with Japanese graphic designer Shinpei Naito for a special-edition capsule. These items will all feature brightly-colored prints that not to both floral and tropical influences.
