The Masked Singer has outdone itself after hip hop legend Grandmaster Flash was unveiled as Polar Bear during Wednesday night’s epic episode.
The latest instalment was a New York Night themed episode which revealed one of the true trailblazers in music had been disguised as a polar bear, dressed in a red baseball cap and sporting some pretty jazzy gold chains, singing and dancing to Blondie’s Rapture.
A fortnight after Mary Poppins hero Dick Van Dyke, 97, was unmasked, Flash, 65, took off his giant head piece, leaving the audience and judges stunned – except for Nicole Scherzinger who managed to guess his identity correctly earlier in the night.
‘We are in the presence of an icon,’ exclaimed host Nick Cannon, 42. ‘You are a pioneer of a whole culture. Why did you want to do this show?’
‘In the world today, there is a lot of sadness,’ explained the superstar. ‘When I seen this show on a rough day I had for business, I was laughing, actually had me laughing and it allowed you to let your guard down and just have fun.
‘It’s a great show.’
Nicole told the crowd: ‘We’re looking at the man that invented scratching.’
‘And your energy is so infectious. That’s what it’s all about. You spreading the real message, just like your song.’
The whole room got up on their feet as Grandmaster Flash was greeted with a set of DJ decks and started scratching to Chic’s song Good Times.
While Nicole boasted being the only judge to work out the icon behind the mask, Ken Jeong, 53, suggested P Diddy, Jenny McCarthy guessed Flava Flav and Robin Thicke was convinced it was LL Cool J.
The Masked Singer almost unveiled another star too with Medusa losing a sing-off against five-piece group California Roll.
However, she was saved by Nicole who revealed the singer was her ‘favourite’ and rang her ‘Ding Dong Keep It On’ Bell.
The judges were torn over her identity, with Jenny thinking is was Halsey, but Nicole is sure it’s Lorde.
Viewers at home, however, have predicted Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie will be under the costume.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays on FOX.
