2021 has been quite the year for London-based designer Priya Ahluwalia. From winning the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design and more recently picking up the BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund, the 27-year-old now showcases her Spring/Summer 2022 collection, alongside Mulberry, with a short film entitled Parts of Me.
Directed by BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr, Parts of Me showcases a collection that’s an amalgamation of research from Ahluwalia into the creativity behind popular styles in the 1970s when Black liberation movements in the U.S. and the U.K. were most prominent.
The clothing itself is a healthy blend of patchwork, slim tailoring and retro tracksuits, while unisex staples are given priority as Ahluwalia dives into the world of womenswear, giving pieces like printed joggers and suiting a unisex, feminie spin.
The collection is accompanied by a collaborative bag collection with Mulberry. The capsule collection consists of 12 reworked bags in various sizes and four specially designed scarves, which launch on June 14.
