The Wanted star Tom Parker, 32, has taken to Instagram to reveal that he’s making a documentary with Channel 4 about his battle with brain cancer, adding that the journey has been an “emotional process.” The father-of-two was diagnosed with an “inoperable” brain tumour in October last year after suffering a seizure three months earlier and has since shared his battle with the disease on his social media pages.
It’s been an eye opening, and at times, an emotional process
In view of his 212,000 followers the star relayed the news of the documentary, as well as revealing that he’s organising a fundraising concert with proceeds going to Stand Up To Cancer.
Tom wrote: “We have some news,” followed by siren emojis.
“For the past few months @being_kelsey and I have been working with the good people at Spungold TV on a documentary for @channel4 and Stand Up 2 Cancer.”
The musician went on to reveal that as well as telling his own story, he met with others who are battling the same disease as him.
“As well as looking at our story, I’ve also been meeting some amazing people who are suffering from the same disease and meeting doctors and activists who are trying every day to raise awareness and to fight for more funding for vital research into brain cancer,” he continued.
Tom went on: “I have also decided to stage a fundraising concert, with some great artists, to raise money for @su2cuk and the National Brain Appeal and I’m really excited to tell you all the details very soon.”
The star revealed that the making of the documentary had been an “emotional” time before thanking his fans for their support.
“It’s been an eye opening, and at times, an emotional process but I’m really proud of what we are creating.”
He continued: “It’s time to raise awareness and increase the money available for research and if I can help do that with this project then I’ll be a very happy man!
“Thanks again for all your support for myself and Kelsey and the kids, you have no idea how much we appreciate it!” Tom signed off the post.
Fans of the star took to the comments to applaud the singer for his bravery.
One wrote: “Proud of you my brother.”
While another added: “Wow, So Proud of you Tom and family.”
As a third penned: “So pleased you did this.”
Previously, the star spoke of his and his wife, Kelsey’s wish to have more children in the future after learning that his incurable brain tumour had shrunk.
The couple, who are already parents to daughter Aurelia, 20 months, and son Bodhi, six months, are planning to have more children, less than a year after The Wanted singer was diagnosed.
Kelsey, who married Tom in 2018, said that she’d always wanted a big family and spoke to OK! magazine about hers and Tom’s future plans.
“We are planning for more children,” Kelsey told the publication.
Kelsey, who was pregnant with her second child when her husband was given the devastating news of his cancer, said the family had been through “a lot”.
The singer, 32, was diagnosed with an inoperable glioblastoma after having a seizure last July and shared the news with his fans on social media the following October.
