Adam Peaty is reportedly 'beside himself' after his girlfriend Eiri Munro opened up about the horrific trolling she has been exposed to following his "near kiss" with Strictly partner Katya Jones.
Last week, Eiri admitted that she has struggled with the "hate" she's received in the aftermath of the Olympic swimmer's steamy Argentine Tango with professional dancer Katya on the BBC One series.
And it has now been claimed that 26 year old Adam is concerned about the effects his appearance on the show is having on his girlfriend, with whom he shares baby son George.
"Adam is beside himself about the abuse Eiri is receiving. He had no idea the impact being on the show would have on her and feels a responsibility as her partner," a source told The Sun.
It was added: "Adam and Katya are in training for long hours every day. Eiri has been incredibly supportive. To see her being mocked by trolls has been incredibly difficult for him to stomach.
"He wants to protect her. Adam is trying to work out if they can somehow make it stop as it's so hard for him to see Eiri upset."
OK! has contacted a representative for Adam for further comment.
During Adam's dance with Katya, some fans claimed that it looked like he was about to lean in for a peck with the Russian dancer as they came to a dramatic end of their epic dance routine.
Adam addressed the speculation on his Instagram page after he and Katya got through in the results show, saying people could "see what they want", but there was "real-life consequences" to their words.
Yet despite this, mum-of-one Eirianedd said she has struggled with the "hate" she's received in the aftermath.
"I have been receiving a lot of hate on the internet – people saying really horrible stuff," she told The Mirror.
"I am trying to lay it to rest now as I am tired."
She even deleted her social media accounts for a while.
After Adam's dance had aired, the 23 year old had posted a video of her pretending to cry and captioned it: "Watching your boyfriend almost kiss another woman on live TV – finding out 10 million people also watched it."
It comes as the mum-of-one also posted a new TikTok video, where she told her followers she was so grateful for the support over the last week and a half.
"I want to say thank you to everyone. It makes me a bit emotional," she shared. "To everyone that has been really nice to me. Because last week was a lot.
"Even when it's a thousand nice comments and one mean one, it's so easy to feel like the world is against you, and it did feel like that for a while."
Eiri went on to say she gave herself a "reality check" and reminded herself she's "not that important".
"But you guys made me feel so much better, those that were checking up on me and those that were commenting. Thank you," she said, jokingly adding that her fans had "saved her life".
