Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder released two new solo singles, “Matter of Time” and “Say Hi,” on Wednesday (November 18).
Vedder released the two songs, and an official music video for “Matter of Time,” after a virtual charity event, Venture Into Cures, hosted by him and his wife, Jill. He also shared a live performance of “Say Hi.”
The EB Research Partnership, a non-profit founded by Eddie and Jill in 2014, produced the charity event. The organization is dedicated to researching treatments and educating people on Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a genetic skin disorder that affects about half a million people and does not have a known cure.
Vedder originally wrote “Say Hi” for Eli Meyer, a young boy suffering from EB and struggling to feel accepted by his peers. “Matter of Time” also has relevance to the cause.
“As we arise with the sun in our eyes / Catch a break from the dark / Still times when nothing’s all right / As we bandage up all our parts,” Vedder sings in “Say Hi.”
“EB is brutal. It’s so unbelievably painful and horrific to watch what these kids are going through,” Jill Vedder told WE Charity. “But we believe — the researchers believe — that we can cure it.”
Several celebrities including David Letterman, Adam Levine, Jon Batiste, Billie Eilish, Chris Hemsworth and Laura Dern appeared at Venture Into Cures on Wednesday.
