A co-star in the Tony-winning revival of “Once on This Island” became a real-life Broadway hero on Friday night when she stopped the extravaganza midsong to save a choking audience member.
We’re told that Tamyra Gray noticed the struggling theatergoer from the stage, but it took some time for her to get the rest of the cast and crew to understand what was going on.
Eventually, Gray managed to stop the scene and yell — just like in the movies — “Is there a doctor in the house?”
Happily, there was.
Once the ailing fan had been helped, the show (as it must) went on.
A rep for the musical confirmed to Page Six that “a patron fell ill during the performance, which was then stopped . . . midsong, and the EMTs were also called.”
Gray — a former “American Idol” contestant — stars in the revival with Destiny’s Child singer Michelle T. Williams, who joined the cast in November.
The show — which has been hailed as “dazzling,” “inspired,” “ravishing” and “imaginative and dynamic” by critics — will play at the Circle in the Square Theatre until Jan. 6.
