It's been two years since the nation lost Caroline Flack, and in a new video, Olly Murs has revealed she told him he was her "soulmate" from the moment they met for the first time.
Speaking to Made in Chelsea stars Jamie Laing and Alex Mytton on the Private Parts podcast, Olly, 38, read out a heartbreaking letter Caroline wrote to him in 2018 for one of his tours.
Olly became pals with Caroline when they hosted the Xtra Factor together, and the star told Jamie, 34, and Alex, 31, that he initially put Caroline's letter in his tour book. But after his friend tragically passed away in February 2020, he looked back at the words she wrote to him five years ago.
The Dear Darlin singer said: "Now that she’s not here, I went through and remembered what she wrote. And it was like, wow. ‘When I met Olly for the first time, it felt like I’d met my soulmate not in a weird way, it was just like meeting someone I had known all my life. I’ve never laughed as much as I did in 2011 when we first hosted the Xtra Factor together and that experience will always stay with me forever,'" before we start to see Olly choking on his words.
After taking a moment to gather himself, he continued to read: "'He’s one of the most talented people I’ve met in my whole life and he puts 100 per cent into everything he does.
"'He keeps the whole team going and for that, I forgive him for his dad jokes. Caroline Flack.’"
Olly explained further: "Knowing the pain she must have been in to take her own life, to hear her say she’s never laughed so much as I did in 2011 and that memory of us being together was one of the moments. Do you know what I mean?"
Fans then saw Olly tell Jamie and Alex: "Little moments like that, I’m really trying to keep it together here."
Many social media users waded in to comment on the video, which was shared on TikTok, as they gave Olly words of support for opening up.
"So heartbreaking, I can see and feel his emotions watching this… he must miss her so much," one fan said.
"Caroline's loss was felt by EVERYONE," another wrote, while a third shared: "Caroline and him will always have a connection."
Another agreed by writing: "They were double of each other."
"Aww bless, poor Caroline. Olly is very upset here, I hope he is ok," another fan wrote.
In September, Olly paid a tribute to Caz by performing Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond on The Voice.
He said ahead of his performance: "I’m going to do a classic song, it’s not one of my ones, obviously they’re classic right!
"I want to dedicate it to having you lot back, and also I want to dedicate it to my friend Caroline Flack."
