Monty Don corrects viewer over wife remark as BBC host talks Gardeners’ World return

Gardeners' World: Monty Don warns against 'overfeeding' plants

Monty Don rarely shares details of his private life with his wife Sarah Don who he got married to back in 1983. The Gardeners’ World presenter took the opportunity to correct a Twitter user who met the BBC favourite at an event some time ago.

The 65-year-old had taken to the micro-blogging site and shared a candid Happy New Year message in view of his 206,000 followers.

The BBC favourite accompanied the post with a photo of his snow-covered back garden.

A social media user addressed Monty saying he first met the gardening expert at a conference where the presenter spoke about his other half’s jewellery collection.

The person in question wrote: “The first time I came across you was at a conference in London c.1986 and I was a fashion student. You were talking about your wife’s jewellery.”

Monty corrected the Twitter user admitting it was both of couple’s jewellery collection but his wife was very much in charge.

He penned: “I think I remember that occasion. (By the way, it was our jewellery – although Sarah very much the senior partner).”

Monty and his wife Sarah have been married for almost 40 years.

Speaking about the pair’s relationship, the Gardeners’ World host admitted they have an equal partnership.

Monty said: “Some of our happiest times together are when we’re working outside, doing different jobs in different parts of the garden, hardly speaking, but bound by a common purpose.

“If we disagree, I can dig it up and move it. The partnership thing is completely woven into our relationship.”

“When Sarah’s out, I wouldn’t paint these walls red,” he added to The Telegraph.

Elsewhere, Monty shared some exciting news with viewers as he spoke of Gardeners’ World return.

Fans shared their delight at the good news, as they inundated the presenter with comments.

A third wrote: “Brilliant! I know they are repeated items but it will help me look forward to the spring and summer during such weird times.”

While a fourth person added: “Just what we need at this moment. I bought some daffodils this morning, and there are lots of shoots coming through in the garden. Spring’s not too far away.”
