Love Island’s Dr Alex George ‘grateful’ as he lands new presenting job

Dr Alex George, who rose to fame on the 2018 series of Love Island, has landed an exciting new presenting job.

The 31 year old worked as an A&E doctor prior to his stint in the villa, and following his time on the ITV2 reality show, he returned to the job part-time.

Alongside his work as a doctor he regularly appears on TV shows to talk about mental health, and is currently the Youth Mental Health Ambassador within the Department for Education.

And starting soon he will be able to add radio presenting to his already impressive CV, as he's set to present his on show on Classic FM.

Sharing the exciting news on his Instagram, he wrote: "ANNOUNCEMENT* Im back on @classicfm with a brand new series!!!

"UPLIFTING CLASSICS every Sunday at 9pm for the next 6 weeks. No matter how you are feeling, high or a little low, join me for an hour of amazing classical music and motivational tips for the week ahead.

"Thank you @global for having me back, gratitude is on full MAM I’M ON THE RADIO."

Last year Dr Alex left his long-time job in A&E, telling his Instagram followers said he was struggling to manage all of his commitments and admitted it "wasn't an easy decision" but he felt he was approaching burnout.

"I love being an A&E doctor. It's something that I trained all my life to be," he said "but I basically got to the point where I was burning out."

The doctor turned TV star has been a passionate campaigner for mental health since tragically losing his own brother Llŷr to suicide in July 2020.

And in February 2021, he was appointed Youth Mental Health Ambassador by the UK Government, and met with then Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

At the time he told OK!: "It was a real pinch me moment. He is the busiest person in the UK right now, I’d say.

“As a little Welsh boy from Carmarthen, who just started a campaign earlier this year, It does feel kind of incredible to be in that position and to be able to have time to say what I wanted to.

“Because that’s the important thing, I don’t want to just meet the Prime Minister. It is about meeting and getting across the important things that I want to say.”
