Lizzo Paired Her High Ponytail With a Not-So-Subtle Reminder to Vote at the Billboard Music Awards

At Wednesday night's 2020 Billboard Music Awards, queen__Lizzo__ took the opportunity to remind everyone what's most important this year: voting. The "Good As Hell" singer, who had a whopping 11 nominations this year, took home the award for Top Song Sales Artist and encouraged people to make their voices heard in a highly powerful acceptance speech. To drive the point home even further, she wore a dress emblazoned with the word "VOTE" all over it, as well as a manicure that featured two voting-themed accent nails.

The manicure alone is pretty simple and can easily be recreated at home. Her go-to nail artist Eri Ishizu created the look using products by OPI, which you can score at most drugstores. First, he applied a layer of the brand's Stay Strong GelColor Base Coat and then followed up with its GelColor in the shade Black Onyx. He then used the same GelColor polish in Alpine Snow to write "VOTE" on two of her nails. He completed the look by applying the Stay Shiny GelColor Top Coat to set everything in place and add shine.

Shape-wise, she opted for a classic square style with subtly rounded edges. And, true to form, she went with a super long look for a statement-making effect.

In regards to the rest of her look, hairstylist Shelby Swain gave her a super-high and sleek ponytail using GHD tools. "Lizzo wanted to do something sleek to fit with the dress as the dress was such a big statement, so we went with a snatched pony," Swain tells Allure. "It was a Naomi Campbell moment."

As for makeup, she went for a soft smoky eye, dramatic lashes, and a bold blush look that brightened her whole face (as if she needs the help). Needless to say, this is definitely one of Lizzo's most iconic award show beauty moments to date — and all due to the importance of voting.
