Camilla will break royal tradition with crown at King Charles’ coronation

Queen Consort Camilla’s crown for theCoronation has been revealed by Buckingham Palace.

The 75 year oldroyalwill wear the Crown of Queen Mary, which was removed from the Tower of London on Tuesday to be reset with the Cullinan III, IV and V diamonds – in a tribute to the lateQueen Elizabeth II, who had the jewels in her personal collection and often wore them as brooches.

TheQueen Consort will wear an existing crown at the Coronation, rather than a newly commissioned piece, for the first time in recent history, Buckingham Palace said.

It was said to be a decision made in the interests of sustainability and efficiency.

Meanwhile, St Edward’s Crown, which will be used for the coronation ofKing Charles III, has returned to public display at the Tower of London following modification work

Camilla and Charles will be crowned side-by-side at Westminster Abbey on 6 May – with government ministers promising the event will"showcase the very best of the United Kingdom".

Meanwhile the King, 74, is said to be working hard to make sure his coronation ismore “inclusive, relevant and less archaic”.

The crown the Queen Consort will wear was made for Mary of Teck – wife of King George V and Queen Elizabeth II’s grandmother – in 1911.

It was placed on the Queen Mother’s coffin during her 2002 funeral and has since been on public display in the Tower of London.

The news comes after it emergedCamilla had been struck down with Covid for a second time.

On Monday, it was revealed the Queen Consort had pulled out of events because of a "seasonal illness", which has since been confirmed as the coronavirus.

A statement from Buckingham Palace Read: "After suffering the symptoms of a cold, Her Majesty The Queen Consort has tested positive for the Covid virus.

"With regret, she has therefore cancelled all her public engagements for this week and sends her sincere apologies to those who had been due to attend them."

Camilla was set for numerous engagements in the coming days, including a celebration of Elmhurst Ballet School and visiting Southwater One Library in Telford.

Besides Camilla, who also caught the virus in 2022, the Kingcontracted covid in March 2020 andagain in 2022.

Prince William caught covid back in April 2020 but did notimmediately announce the news as he didn't want to alarm the nation, and instead, it was revealed almost seven months later.

"There were important things going on and I didn't want to worry anyone," William said.

In July 2021,Kate Middleton missed England’s Euro 2020 semi-final at Wembley and the rest of Wimbledon because she was self-isolatingafter coming into contact with someone who had Covid.
