Snowdonia and the Argyll Coastal Route make the top 10 most scenic drives in the world

But with so many incredible routes around the world, what iconic journeys are worth your time?

Well, according to a new survey conducted by Hertz, Brits love Route 66.

In a top 10 of the most Instagram-worthy road trips in the world, the iconic route from Chicago to Santa Monica came in at number one.

Claiming the title of the road trip capital of the world, the US also took positions two and three on the list with the drive around Arizona's Grand Canyon and the recently re-opened Pacific Coast Highway in California.

But despite naming road trip destinations as far afield as Australia and New Zealand, Brits also voted for some scenic routes closer to home.

The Argyll Coastal Route, which traces the west coast of Scotland, came in at number eight.

And the roads around Snowdonia came in at number ten.

The survey also revealed what Brits thought that wide open roads, driving past famous attractions and spotting wildlife were all essential elements of a great road trip.
