She and her family moved to Michigan where she attended Troy High School, which she left because she got a role in The Will Rogers Follies. She later got her diploma via a correspondence course.
Foster’s career skyrocketed when she landed the lead role in Thoroughly Modern Millie. The production moved to Broadway in 2002 earning Foster a Tony Award, according to IMDb.

Foster starred in Amy Sherman-Palladino’s short-lived Bunheads series on Freeform. While the series only lasted a short while, Foster’s performance earned her a Grace Allen Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Breakthrough Role.
Foster worked with Sherman-Palladino in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. She played the character, Violet. Foster found herself working with Sherman-Palladino again on the Amazon original series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, where she sang “I Enjoy Being a Girl” in two episodes.
Foster’s other credits include The Good Wife, Into the Dark, Instinct, Elementary, Psych, and Royal Pains among others.
