And while we've often heard it's not ideal to wear make-up in the gym, trying to fit in exercise after work or on your lunch break can often mean we do.
Now, a dermatologist has revealed exactly what happens when we sweat through foundation – and it's not great.
Speaking to Elle UK, Dr. Anjali Mahto, Consultant Dermatologist and British Skin Foundation spokesperson explained exercising in make-up can lead to acne and uneven skin texture.
"Sweat and increased temperature brought on by exercise can lead to open pores which can become blocked by particles of make-up," she explained.
"This can easily lead to breakouts and, in turn, uneven skin texture."
It's not just sweat that can cause a problem, either.
Constantly touching equipment, gripping machines and handles and even being in constant contact with the floor (or a yoga mat) can also be an issue.
Especially when it's followed by touching our faces – which let's face it, we often do when covered in sweat.
Foundation and concealer can give the bacteria something to cling to, reports Elle, which can then lead to breakouts and acne.
